Are the soundproof phone booths portable?

Yes, you can move our soundproof phone booth around the office. Our product is designed to be portable and flexible to meet the changing needs of the modern workplace. Depending on the type of move you’re planning, we recommend several different solutions.

If you plan on moving the soundproof phone booth around the same floor in your office and have a hard surface such as wood or concrete, we recommend applying floor casters when you assemble the booth. These casters can be easily applied underneath the feet of our phone booth, which makes it very easy to slide the booth across the floor. If you’ve already assembled the booth and are looking to move the booth just a little, use furniture pads to gently move the booth across the floor. This will prevent you from scratching the floor.

If you’re moving between floors or buildings, we recommend disassembly. Disassembly takes around 20 minutes and involves following the same steps as our assembly manual. Once disassembled, we recommend using moving blankets or putting the unit back in its original packaging to protect the pieces during the move.

Do you offer ADA compliant office phone booths?

The short answer is no. We do not currently offer ADA compliant office phone booths. The reason for this is that even though we'd love to provide an ADA compliant solution, spaces need to be at least 60 inches wide for wheelchairs to make a 180 degree turn inside them. If a phone booth were to be 60 inches wide, sprinklers would be required, and the booth will no longer be easy to install or to move into a new office. If you’re looking to build an ADA compliant soundproof phone booth, our recommendation is to do a custom buildout.

/pages/faq-soundproof-phone-booth-ada-compliance Do You Offer ADA Compliant Office Phone Booths? | ROOM We do not offer standard models that are ADA compliant. Find out why and learn more about requirements for ADA compliant office phone booths here.

Why is the ROOM Phone Booth compliant for omission of sprinkler installation?

Section 903.3.3 of the IBC and the obstruction rules of NFPA 13 allows for sprinkler omission under obstructions less than 4ft wide. The intent of NFPA 13 is that the width of an object is the lesser of the two horizontal dimensions (with the length being the longer horizontal dimension). As such, sprinkler protection is not required under objects where the length is greater than 4 feet and the width is 4 feet or less. The ROOM Phone Booth is less than 4ft wide, therefore it meets the obstruction requirements per both IBC and NFPA 13.

Some AHJ require more stringent requirements for the buildings and in those cases, we can provide an access point for sprinkler installation.

Please reach out to us at support@room.com if you have additional questions.

/pages/faq-compliance-phone-booth-sprinklers Why is the ROOM Phone Booth compliant for omission of sprinkler installation? Learn more about sprinkler compliance for ROOM's soundproof office Phone Booth.
Why is the ROOM Booth compliant for omission of integration to the fire alarm system interface?

The building fire alarm signaling system must be arranged to produce a sound level at least 15 decibels (dBA) above the average ambient sound level; the pod system needs to be tested to show that the building fire alarm system can provide the required sound levels inside of the pod with the roof intact (closed).

If the pods are only used for employee use areas, a strobe notification appliance is not needed unless the employees in the space are hearing impaired. Since the 2006 edition of the IBC, a 20-percent spare capacity is required to be built into the building fire alarm system to add strobes if needed. If required, the strobe appliance can be located outside of the pod if the strobe light is able to penetrate into the space. The penetration of light can be through glass side panels via a wall mounted appliance or through the transparent door via a wall mounted appliance. skylight roof via a ceiling mounted appliance. Alternatively, NFPA 72 allows for a performance-based alternative to visible notification appliance location, provided it is proven that the design allows a minimum illumination of 0.0375 lumens/ft2 at any point within the pod at all angles.

Please reach out to us at support@room.com if you have additional questions.

The certification assures that furniture products support a healthy indoor environment by meeting strict chemical emission limits for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). To be certified, products must be tested by independent labs for compliance with the ANSI/BIFMA X7.1, and either ANSI/BIFMA e.3 or CDPH/EHLB Standard Method V1-1 for VOC emissions of concerns.

CSA 22.2 #203 Certified: Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is a group that sets safety standards in Canada. ROOM’s UL listing is certified to CSA 22.2 #203, the category for modular electrical systems for office furniture.

BIFMA Certified: Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association (BIFMA) is the leader in developing furniture safety, durability, and sustainability standards. UL standards for furniture dictate that products adhere to certain BIFMA guidelines. All ROOM products meet all of the BIFMA requirements set by UL 962.

ASTM E84 Tested: ASTM E84 is the standard testing method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials. It’s the fire test dictated by UL 962. Test results for ROOM meet the requirements set by UL STD 962. ROOM’s ETL listing indicates that our Phone Booth, Meeting Room, Focus Room and Open Meeting Room meet UL 962 standards for flammability.

TSCA VI Compliant: TSCA VI is the formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products. EPA TSCA VI is the federally adopted standard based on CARB, which was developed in the State of California. All of ROOM’s Particleboard and MDF is compliant to TSCA VI because it’s CARB compliant.

Why is the ROOM Meeting Room compliant for omission of sprinkler installation?

The roof system of our modular Meeting Room features a UL listed (UL33) fusible link which actuates when heated above 135F, causing the two skylight sections of the roof to open and allow for water from the building sprinkler system to enter the unit. A 47.8-inch wide section of the roof will remain an obstruction. However, the width and length of the obstruction created by the unit roof, when in the open position, is less than 4 feet. 4ft is the maximum width of an obstruction permitted to be non-sprinkler protected in both the IBC (903.3.3) and NFPA 13 (8.6.5.3).

The intent of NFPA 13 is that the width of an object is the lesser of the two horizontal dimensions (with the length being the longer horizontal dimension). As such, sprinkler protection is not required under objects where the length is greater than 4 feet and the width is 4 feet or less. Therefore, when the roof is in the open position the unit design meets the obstruction requirements of the IBC and NFPA 13 in both orientations. The unit should be placed in areas where the distance from the top of the unit to the bottom of the sprinkler deflector is greater than 18-inches.

Some AHJ require more stringent requirements for the buildings and in those cases, we can provide an access point for sprinkler installation.

Please reach out to us at support@room.com if you have additional questions.

Why is the ROOM Meeting Room compliant for the omission of integration to the fire alarm system interface?

The building fire alarm signaling system must be arranged to produce a sound level at least 15 decibels (dBA) above the average ambient sound level; the unit system needs to be tested to show that the building fire alarm system can provide the required sound levels inside of the unit with the roof intact (closed).

If the units are only used for employee use areas, a strobe notification appliance is not needed unless the employees in the space are hearing impaired. Since the 2006 edition of the IBC, a 20-percent spare capacity is required to be built into the building fire alarm system to add strobes if needed. If required, the strobe appliance can be located outside of the unit if the strobe light is able to penetrate into the space. The penetration of light can be through glass side panels via a wall mounted appliance or through the skylight roof via a ceiling-mounted appliance. Alternatively, NFPA 72 allows for a performance-based alternative to visible notification appliance location provided it is proven that the design provides a minimum illumination of 0.0375 lumens/ft2 at any point within the unit at all angles.

Please reach out to us at support@room.com if you have additional questions.
